“Hardly at all, then all of a sudden.” This is how I think about AI. In San Francisco, we started to see lots of cars driving around with cameras on top. They had teams of drivers monitoring laptops and reading sensor data. Clearly, they were working hard.
Fast forward a few years and the cars are driving around on their own, picking up passengers, and occasionally blocking traffic with their flashers on. They seem stuck. But, the reality is, they aren’t any worse than an Uber driver who mindlessly stops to wait for a passenger.
It didn’t happen quickly. If you watched every step, it was painstaking. Millions and millions of miles were driven - to get the training and safety data to perfection. Now, you can hail a ride with a tap on your phone. Amazing! ( and seems sudden ).
In this issue, let’s talk about how we can use AI (ChatGPT) to improve ourselves — for ourselves and the teams and organizations we are members of.
AI Can Make You A Better Team Player
There’s always more work that can be done, and ChatGPT is eager for a challenge. AI can help you think more clearly and provide alternative ways to get things done.
Todo: Tell ChatGPT what you do. Ask it to teach you how to think about it. “How can I practice getting really good at ______ [ insert task that would make you a better team player ].”
Increase Awareness & Learning
When you can get faster at the tasks you already have, you can add items that will help your team.
Todo: “Teach me how to do marketing for _____ on social media, with limited marketing experience.” — you might ask ChatGPT. “Enumerate and answer concisely.” — is one of my favorite ways to reduce reading time.
If I’m confused, I’ll ask ChatGPT to keep explaining until I understand it. “Tell more about _______ [ the thing I’m not quite understanding.]” or “I don’t quite understand it, give me some examples.”
If we keep training ourselves and AI together, eventually we’ll reach autonomy. But, it may seem like quite a slog until we get it right. - Brian

Throughout this pervasive sense of wonder and awe I've had over the last six months - a more or less permanent state now - I've had a LOT of laughs at Dall E 2 art generation. Like all the other stuff, it improves incrementally until, all of a sudden, it works way better.
We're not quite at "way better" with image prompting... yet!
